Bodyweight workout number 6! Only ten mins!

Woohoo! It’s time for another workout!

I’m sure you’ve spotted the pattern by now – ten exercises, ten mins in total and no equipment required – just yourself, a watch/iphone to time it, and a mat if you want one for your knees/hands.

If you have more time then you can always do it twice or three times, if you don’t have ten mins then just do half! Get everyone involved! 🙂

If you want to do it “with me” then the video is below.

Or you can use the pics below or download a pdf of the workout here: Bodyweight Circuit 6

Have fun! 🙂

Bodyweight workout number 5! Ten mins, ten exercises!

It’s workout time already! No sign of any gyms opening or classes coming back so here’s another lockdown, bodyweight home workout for you!

As usual it’s equipment-free. All you need is yourself, a watch/iphone to time it, and a mat if you want one for your knees/hands.

Anything is always better than nothing so with that in mind this is another ten minute circuit – if you have more time then you can always do it twice or three times, but if you don’t then just do it once! Get everyone involved! 🙂

Recipes

Easy Easter Biscuits

I thought it might be fun to do a little Easter baking! These are fun super easy, spicy Easter and spring biccies that are great fun to make, and eat! You can leave the spices out if you prefer of course or add any flavouring you like! Something fun to do with the kids too 🙂 The icing is flavoured with either lemon, fresh raspberry or fresh blueberries.

I use low fat spread and “half spoon” sugar – but you can use normal butter/spread and any sugar you like! 🙂

For the biscuits you need:

300g plain flour

140g Sugar (if using “half spoon” sugar then just 70g)

180g Dairy free spread

Optional spices: 2 tsp Cinnamon, 1/2 tsp Nutmeg, 1/2 tsp Cloves

For decoration:

Sugar and cinnamon

Currants

Icing sugar

Lemon juice, raspberries and blueberries

Sugar balls etc

Preheat the oven to 175 C.

Put the spread and sugar in a bowl and cream together. Combine the flour and spices if using and mix really well. Once it forms a dough, wrap it in clingfilm and pop it in the fridge for 20 mins if you have time (you can also save it in the fridge for use later that week or you can freeze it for months if you need).

Remove and roll out. Use whatever shaped cutters you like to it your biscuit shapes and transfer to a baking tray.

If you are using currants for bunny eyes and noses then add those now. Sprinkle with a little sugar and cinnamon. Place in the oven and cook for 8 – 12 mins or until golden. Remove and allow to cool on a wire rack.

Once cool you can ice the biscuits. Mix up your icing powder with lemon juice or fresh mashed raspberries or blueberries and then spread on the biscuits (or just water if you prefer). Add sugar decorations if you like. Allow to set and then eat!

Enjoy! 🙂

Bodyweight workout number 4! Ten mins, ten exercises!

Well this is becoming a bit of a tradition now isn’t it! We’re over 2 weeks into this lockdown now with no sign of it changing anytime soon. So while we’re all still missing our classes here’s another little workout for you!

Once again it’s equipment-free. All you need is yourself, a watch/iphone to time it, and a mat if you want one for your knees/hands.

Always remember anything is better than nothing so you don’t need to do a long exercise session. This is another ten minute circuit – if you have more time then you can always do it twice or three times, but if you don’t then just do it once! Get everyone involved! 🙂

If you want to do it “with me” then there’s a video below.

Oh and in case you’re wondering why my clients know the fast feet as the seagull dance… this is why: seagull dance (the resemblance is uncanny! 🤣)

Have fun! 🙂

Tuesday Tip

Tuesday Tip: Find the Joy

Tuesday tip: Find the Joy 🤗

It might sound silly but one of the most important things about getting into a new fitness routine is making it fun! Here’s why:

#1 Overcoming fear

Fear is a massive obstacle for starting to get fit – fear of failure, fear of not keeping up, fear of judgement, fear of feeling out of shape while you do it, fear of getting sweaty. But the idea of having fun counters this. Find something that sounds more fun than scary. e.g. a colour 5k, or a disco light dance class with your mates, etc.

#2 Staying motivated

If you’re not enjoying it you’re far less likely to drag yourself to the gym on those dark, cold days. Fun will motivate you when things like “losing weight” or “getting fit” sound less appealing than sitting on the sofa in your pj’s watching TV. It gives you something to be excited about and look forward to. So find a workout than brings you joy.

# Staying consistent

Consistency is key so being excited about your workout (or at least an element of it!) is key to ensuring you keep going. Find that exercise that you really love, that makes you smile or laugh, that feels exciting. That way you’ll go back again and again, you won’t bail and you’ll even find yourself arranging things around it. That means you’ll keep doing it! It might be a class with your favourite instructor, or an early run with your friends, or a dance class with your partner…

# Opening up more fitness

It’s like a gateway drug lol! It lets you get comfortable with working out that may well lead on to other stuff. I never thought I’d end up doing what I do – but it’s the fun element of the classes I went to, and now teach, that opened up this world to me. Get comfy with workouts that feel fun, rather than a punishment.

# Likeminded people

Chances are if you’re there for the fun, so are others, and if they’re enjoying what you are then they’re likely to be people you will get on with. It’ a fab way of meeting people, or just finding a bunch of people to share that 45 mins of joy with.

Finding the right exercise can take some trial and error, but it’s so important to keep trying until you find that joy!

Happy Tuesday 🤗
